To view a presentation just click on a thumbnail photo below, (the thumbnail image shows the image as it is today.) Once you click on one, it will open a new window and the presentation data will be loaded, this should not take more than a minute or so on dial-up modem or just a few seconds on Broadband. Once it has loaded it should auto-play, The fading will repeat back and forth forever. You can pause the fade at any time using the Pause button. Just click the Play button to restart the fading. To quit the presentation just click the red X Quit button or close the window.
For more info read see the main then and now index.

These are interactive fading images presented using Adobe Flash, You must have a screen resolution of 1024x768 (or greater) to view these presentations, I have designed them so that they use as much of the browser viewing window as possible. A reasonable specification PC is required (850MHz+) otherwise the image fading will be extremely slow. If you enjoy watching these presentations then please leave some comments for my guest book by using the link at the top/right of this window.

Photo Description : London Road viewed from end of Bateman Street, Derby.
Image Reference No. : DP-TAN-BATEMN-86
Details : This view shows London Road looking towards town as viewed from the end of Bateman Street. The tram lines in emerging from the bottom of photo A are from Bateman Street.
The road on the left is Barlow street. There were several streets on the left filled with terraced houses such as Clifton Street, Bloomfield Street and High Street, these were all cleared in the 60's. The church on the right side of London road is the former St Andrews Church, built as a "railway church" between 1864-66, It was designed by George Gilbert Scott. The expansion of the railways and its employees necessitated it and the Midland Railway contributed greatly to the building fund. There was also St Andrews school to the right of it which was built in 1869. The church was demolished in 1970 and replaced with St Andrews house. In the centre of both photos you can see the pinacles of Holy Trinity church above the tree tops. In photo B, the clear area on the right was petrol station up until mid 2004. The Royal Mail Sorting office on Midland Road can be see to the right of St Andrews house in Photo B.
Just behind me is land which in November 2006 saw the building of a state-of-the-art control centre for the East Midlands' rail network. The centre, controls all signalling operations throughout the East Midlands, opened in 2008.
