Description : London Road, near Bradshaw way, Derby, Derbyshire. Image Reference No. : DP-TAN-LNRD-81 Details : This view shows the end of London Road where it meets Bradshaw way and Traffic Street. In photo A the road on the left was originally Bradshaw Street, This street was expanded into two lanes of traffic in 1962 and renamed Bradshaw Way. On the right side of Photo A is the Congregational Chapel built 1846, this fine building was converted into a cinema in 1935. In August 1961 despite many protests the cinema had to close under a compulsory purchase order to make way for the widening of Derby's new Traffic Street inner ring road. Today there are lots of changes at this view as the former Main Centre is being demolished to make way for a new shopping centre. If you have not been to Derby for a while then you may be suprised by the changes taking place. Once this is complete I will be able to take another NOW shot from this location. | Photo Description : Florence Nightingale Statue, London Road, Derby Image Reference No. : DP-TAN-FLOSTAT-84 Details : This view shows the statue of Florence Nightingale in front of the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary on London Road. It is by Countess Feodora Gleichen who was related to Queen Victoria and was the first member of the Royal Society of British Sculptors. This is a Grade II listed statue. Her statue was unveiled by the Duke of Devonshire in 1924. Today's statue actually looks better but this is because it has recently been cleaned.
