"A truly unique way to see changes in time using two perfectly lined up images, one old & one new."

To view a presentation just click on a thumbnail photo below, (the thumbnail image shows the image as it is today.) Once you click on one, it will open a new window and the presentation data will be loaded, this should not take more than a minute or so on dial-up modem or just a few seconds on Broadband. Once it has loaded it should auto-play, The fading will repeat back and forth forever. You can pause the fade at any time using the Pause button. Just click the Play button to restart the fading. To quit the presentation just click the red X Quit button or close the window.
For more info read see the main then and now index.

These are interactive fading images presented using Adobe Flash, You must have a screen resolution of 1024x768 (or greater) to view these presentations, I have designed them so that they use as much of the browser viewing window as possible. A reasonable specification PC is required (850MHz+) otherwise the image fading will be extremely slow. If you enjoy watching these presentations then please leave some comments for my guest book by using the link at the top/right of this window.

Photo Description : Varsity pub, Friar gate, Derby.
Image Reference No. : DP-TAN-VPF-16
Details : This is a view of Varsity pub which opened on 27th Nov 2002. It is located at 20-23 Friar Gate which are grade II listed buildings. During refurbishment work an 18th Century bakery, complete with clay oven, was found at the rear of the premises,
which had previously been shops. This has been restored and incorporated into the interior as a feature.
Things to look for : Aside from the obvious, notice the leaves that appear on the tree branch top/centre are exactly lined up!

This pub has since changed its name as The Almanac which opened its doors on the 20th May 2011.

Photo Description : Kedleston Road view, Derby, Derbyshire.
Image Reference No. : DP-TAN-KRV-18
Details : The buildings seen here on the right side are located on Kedleston road in the original photo, when the A38 (Queensway) road was built the road layout was changed. Today these buildings are located on Cedar street. Originally Longford street, Sherwin street and Cedar street all had separate junctions with Kedleston road, Today these three streets all merge to Broadway before joining Kedleston road. The former vinegar factory (see next image down) is on the right of the photo.
Things to look for : It was not possible to take my photo from the same place as the original as there was a large tree in the way which would reduce the view, so I have moved to the right of the tree. The Path of Kedleston Road has changed completely today due to the building of the A38 trunk road in 1982. Only a few buildings on the right remain, such as the distinctive top of the Vinegar factory.

Photo Description : Former Vinegar Factory on Kedleston Road, Derby, Derbyshire.
Image Reference No. : DP-TAN-FVF-19
Details : Scene showing Abbey Court Nursing & Residential Home at 200 Kedleston Road.
Originally this building was a brewery, built for beer production in 1907, but it was soon converted into a Vinegar factory, which continued until 1986.
Things to look for : This is one of the best lined up presentations I have done, Strange how the chimney stack has been reduced in size but the original pot and top have been replaced.

Photo A taken : 1970
Photo B taken : 8th January 2005
