Description : Friar Gate Railway bridge view, Derby. Image Reference No. : DP-TAN-FRIARBRID-96 Details : This view shows Friar gate railway bridge as viewed from the junction of Ford Street and Stafford Street. The bridge was built in 1876 to carry the Great Northern Railway over the street. Even though 91 years have passed, the view has not really changed that much ,Thankfully the ornate bridge remains although in need of some repair work and a good lick of paint. Photo A taken : 1914 Photo B taken : 6th June 2005 Time elapsed : 91 years Exact Map Location : click HERE. I would like to thank Derby Museum & Art Gallery for allowing me to use Photo A. |

| Photo Description : Bridge Street view, Derby. Image Reference No. : DP-TAN-BRIDGEST-97 Details : This shows a view of Bridge Street from part way down Mill Street. These two Georgian houses at 18-20 Bridge Street were built in 1795. Just of shot to the left of this view stands St John's Church, you can see the railings of the churchyard in Photo B, but not in Photo A, presumably these had been removed for the war effort. | Photo Description : Friar gate corner view, Derby. Image Reference No. : DP-TAN-FRIAR2-99 Details : This view shows a view where Friar gate meets Ford Street/Stafford street. In Photo A the building next to the Friary is the Unitarian chapel built in 1698 (Derby's oldest chapel at the time of demolision 1963). Today this site is occupied by Roman House, Heritage Gate. Notice how the large stone pillar on the left of the Friary has been replaced with a slightly different design. Photo A taken : 1963 Photo B taken : 5th June 2005 Time elapsed : 42 years Exact Map Location : click HERE. I would like to thank Derby Museum & Art Gallery for allowing me to use Photo A. |
