The bar is open from 6pm to 1.30am and with free entry so should be a unique popular alternative to the other bars in Derby. |

Description : Varsity pub on Friar gate Image Reference No. : DP-271102NIGHT-05 Exact Map Location : Click HERE Date photo taken : 27th November 2002 Other Information : This new pub is Varsity and it was opened on 27th Nov 2002. It is located at 21-22 Friar Gate which are grade II listed buildings. The Barracuda Group (owners) received a £63,000 grant from Derby City Council's Townscape Heritage Initiative to renovate the buildings as well as investing £1m of their own money. During refurbishment work an 18th Century bakery, complete with clay oven, was found at the rear of the premises, which had previously been shops. This has been restored and incorporated into the interior as a feature. As of May 2011 this pub became The Almanac. |
