• Photos of the Morledge area in Derby City, Town centre, Derbyshire, England.
The Municipal offices complex, or the council house as it is more commonly known took 16 years to construct. The foundations were layed in July 1938, with the foundation stone being layed in June 1939 by the Mayor Alderman David Butler. The construction was halted when world war two began in September 1939. Work continued in March 1940, the classical columned pediment of the main entrance displays the date in Roman numerals) of MCMXLI as this was completed in 1941.Post-war shortage of building materials delayed the completion until 1954.
