Description : The grave of Joseph Wright Date photo taken : 16th September 2001 Other Information : This is the tombstone of the famous Derby artist Joseph Wright (1734-1797) at the side of the Cathedral. He was originally buried at St Alkmund's church which was demolished to make way for the ring road. The remains were moved to Nottingham Road cemetery and this tombstone placed here in 1997. In 2002 it was brought inside the cathedral and wall-mounted in a prominent place near to the well-visited memorial to Bess of Hardwick. |

Date photo taken : 24th October 2001 Other Information : This building is located in the Black smiths yard on Sadler Gate.This timber-framed merchant's house once stood at the back of the Duke of Newcastle's house in the market place where King Charles I stayed in 1636, It was discovered during the demolition of that building and moved here. |

The old sign is still present to this day. Markeaton brook was culverted underground in 1837 to try and reduce flooding of the town centre. |
