Photo Description : St Mary's Bridge view, Derby, Derbyshire.

Details : St Mary's bridge was built 1789-91 and it runs alongside the 14th century chapel of saint Mary's. Saint Alkmunds church (built 1846) was located in an area called Bridgegate which was cleared in 1967 to make way for Derby inner ring road.
Things to look for : Demolition of Saint Alkmunds church.

Photo Description : Derby Hippodrome Theatre, Derby, Derbyshire.

Details : The Derby Hippodrome is located on Green Lane in the centre of Derby, it opened on 20th July 1914 and was a popular venue in its time. Even the late Eric Morecambe performed there, he stopped in a caravan parked at the top of Babington Lane!
Things to look for : The overall fabric of this building changes very little in 89 years. The dome has been replaced, The metalwork which holds the Hippodrome sign remains.

Update March 30th 2008 - It would appear that this building is not going to survive recent damage, looks like I may have to do a new then and now!

Photo Description : Derby Market Hall view inside, Derby, Derbyshire.

Details : Derby's Market Hall was built in 1864. The then image was taken by F.W. Scarratt, who's shop can be seen on the other side of the Market hall.
Things to look for : The single span roof of 220 feet by 112 feet does not change in the 83 years that pass, but the layout of the stalls change from four to three and with covered roofs to them.

Photo Description : Burton Road/Abbey Street corner view, Derby, Derbyshire.

Details : This is a view looking up Burton Road at the junction with Abbey street. The tall chimney in the then photo is Mount Carmel tower, part of Mason's paints factory and demolished in 1962. When photo B was taken the building was PC Computer Exchange, since then it has also been SOS Imigration. In March 2008 its empty.
Things to look for : The Mount Carmel tower vanishes, Tram lines covered and the modern car appears.

Photo Description : The Bridge Inn pub view, Derby, Derbyshire.

Details : This shot of the Bridge Inn pub (2 Mansfield road) is taken from the bank of the Derwent at Chester Green next to Saint Mary's bridge. The Bridge inn on Mansfield road was established by 1857 in a former private house built in the 1790s, it used to have its own landing-stage and boats for hire in the early part of the 20th century. On the same bank, Just the other side of the bridge was where the former Derby canal joined the Derwent allowing boats to reach the mills at Darley Abbey.
Things to look for : The pub does not change much but the building to the right is demolished.
