• Photos of Leek, Staffordshire, England.
Leek is in North Staffordshire, Leek is surrounded by some of the finest moorland and dale scenery around. It has had a lengthy history and retains a number of old buildings, some from the textile industry, and a traditional open market called "the butter market"
The Nicholson Institute houses an museum,art gallery and the county library.

Other Information : This great monument is located on derby street in the town centre, It is built of Portland stone and was erected by Sir Arthur and Lady Nicholson in memory of their youngest son who was shot by a sniper in the first world war.
This is the first thing you see as you enter Leek from Derby.

Photo Description : Greystones tea rooms

Other Information : This is Greystones Tea room on Stockwell street, It is one of the oldest buildings in the town built in the late 17th Century. It was the former home of Joshua Nicholson, a wealthy silk manufacturer.
The building you can see at the back/right is the Nicholson Institute.

Other Information : This is the Nicholson Institute which houses the art gallery and library. It was built 1882-1884 and is decorated very ornately, see next two photos.
This building was a gift to the town by Josha Nicholson.

Other Information : This is the Robuck pub on Derby street in the town centre it was built in 1626 as a coaching inn.



• Photos of Brindley Mill in Leek, Staffordshire, England.
James Brindley was a famous canal engineer who built a water powered corn mill in 1752. He was the engineer on the Trent & Mersey Canal (amongst others), one of his greatest achievements being the Harecastle tunnel which is 2900 yards long. He is actually buried in the churchyard at Kidsgrove (where Harecastle Tunnel is).
At this museum you can learn all about the mill and even see some Barley being milled using the water wheel. This mill was restored in 1974. James worked in Leek between 1742 and 1765.
Brindley mill is located on the A523 Leek to Macclesfield road.

Other Information : This flywheel is located on the end of the shaft that the wheel is attached to which then drives the vertical shaft which rotates two mill stones on the floor above.

• Photos of Moorlands Farm Park, Staffordshire, England.
The Moorlands Farm Park is a rare breeds animal farm and is located at Ipstones edge in Stoke-on-Trent. Here you can see a wide range of animals such as sheep, Goats, Ducks, geese, Donkey's, Owls etc. It is surrounded by great scenery and there is a Tea shop and Bed and Breakfast if you want to stay there. It would make an ideal place to stop and visit the surrounding attractions such as Alton Towers, Bakewell, Buxton and Dove Dale. This is a great place for both children and adults to visit.

Please give your support to this farm, The recent foot and mouth problems in England have effected the amount of visitors to this farm, This farm IS OPEN.

Other Information : These two ducks are obviously local characters as they keep following you around, Very tame. Also this very friendly cat called Emma seemed to tag along with them. Here they are together next to the picnic table.

Alton is probably best known for being the location of Alton Towers but it has many other things to offer such as the Churnet valley.

Other Information : These are some old houses on Castle hill road, which as you might have gathered leads to Alton castle which is currently being renovated (see next photo)
I took this photo because the flowers looked very attractive, A typical English scene!

Other Information : This is Alton Castle which is being renovated here, The castle can clearly be seen as you approach Alton from the South on the B5032 road.
Bertram de Verdun built the medieval castle in 1176 .
It is currently (since 1996) a residential youth centre for children who e from disadvantaged backgrounds.
