• Photos of Heage Windmill, Derbyshire
Heage Windmill is the only stone-towered, six sailed windmill in Britain. This windmill became operational in 1797 when it had four sails. In 1894 the sails and the cap were destroyed in a gale and it was rebuilt with six sails. In 1919 the fan-tail of the windmill was hit by a gale and destroyed, This was found to be uneconomical to repair and so the mill was shutdown.
Over the years the windmill became derelict, then in 1997 the Heage windmill society was formed with an aim 'to bring the mill back to working order. This windmill was opened to the public on the 1st June 2002.
The refurbishment has cost about £381,000. £163,855 of which has been funded by the Heritage lottery fund.
You can take a guided tour around this windmill, in which you will be told about the history of the mill and you can see how the grain is milled.
To view a 360x180 degree photograph inside the cap of the windmill, please visit my entry on the World Wide Panorama site HERE (Quicktime needed)

The windmill is open at weekends and bank holidays between April and October, for more details please visit their website : www.heagewindmill.org.uk

If you visit the windmill then you will be able to take a look around the inside of the cap (where the public are not allowed) by the use of a 360x180 degree view which I have created for them. Also a virtual Tour which won an award in 2009, See here.
