• Photos of Elvaston steam Rally, Derbyshire, England.
Elvaston Steam Rally is an annual event which has running since 1976, each year it gets larger and more popular. This year was no exception and was helped by two of the hottest days of the summer so far. The money raised by this event goes to local charities.
The rally consists of many varied exhibits from around the UK. And includes the following Steam road rollers, steam engines, Tractors, stationary engines, old motorbikes, Miniatures, Models, Autojumble stalls, Vintage caravans, Fairground rides, Commercial & Military vehicles, events in the arena, loads of craft and charity stalls etc etc etc. There was so much to see that many people stopped for several hours.
The two day event this year was held on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th July.
The photos you can see here were taken on Sunday.

 Photo Description : Fairground organ "Wonderland"

Other Information : C.H. Marenghi 98 key fairground organ, built in Paris, France in 1908. It was built originally for Pat Collins for use with his number 2 wonderland bioscope show. In 1920 it was modified to suit his number 1 scenic railway ride. It remained there until 1962, It has been completely restored to it original condition.

water gear pump 2HP Petrol engine. This was just one of ninety stationary engines where were on show.

Other Information : This is John Beache's - Chair-o-planes. It was built in 1935 used to haul timber by E. Longhurst & Sons, Epsom.

 Photo Descriptions : Fred Dibnah & his road roller "Betsy"

Other Information : This is Fred shaking hands with one of the many people that queued up for his autograph (including me). For those of you who do not know, until 20 years ago Fred was simply a steeplejack working in his own area of Bolton, Lancashire. Whilst working on the town hall in Bolton, the local BBC TV filmed a short news item about him. As a result of this, Fred was approached by a television producer with a view to making a half-hour film about people with unusual jobs. This ended up being a one hour documentary just about him, which won two awards for the producer.

Since then he has hosted many television programmes including a six part series "Fred Dibnah's Industrial age" in 1999, A six part series "Fred Dibnah's Magnificent Monuments" in 2000. And recently a six part series "Fred Dibnah's Buildings of Britain" in Spring 2002.

Fred Dibnah really puts across his enthusiasm for all things historical and engineered, He's a real down to earth bloke who is well loved by all who meet him.

Update : 6th November 04
Fred Dibnah sadly lost his three-year fight against cancer on Saturday 6th November. He will be greatly missed by millions, His enthusiasm was infectious and this is a great loss to everyone who knew him.

Other Information : This is David Seamark, a sheep and arable farmer from Wilstead near Bedford. Here he is demonstrating how he uses his sheepdogs to hurd animals, this year he is using geese.

Other Information : These two birds of prey were on display thanks to Hawkeye Falconry display team which is based at Hurrans garden centre, Hagley and was established in 1982. They have 100 Owls, Hawks and Falcons on display to the public.
