About
Us |
These are exciting times for Derby City Photographic, a photo club devoted to sharing a passion for photography with each other and members of other photographic clubs both near and far. After 25 years at Derby Rowing Club, a recent influx of new members brought us to seek out a larger venue. We now meet every Monday evening at The Grange Banqueting Suite in Littleover. Club evenings start at 7.45 pm and usually finish by 10 pm. The Grange has an extensive car park and our spacious meeting room in convivial surroundings has an adjoining licensed bar. This thriving club embraces all kinds of photographers of both sexes, the young and not so young, the experienced and the novice. Our members pursue a wide interest in pictorial subject matter – landscape, nature, portraiture, sport, photo art, architecture and more - so if you enjoy taking or looking at pictures or just seek to become more proficient, you will find something to interest you at City Photographic. We have a full and varied programme, including illustrated talks by leading photographers, the screening of national exhibitions, inter-club competitions as well as monthly domestic competitions where independent judges pronounce upon our efforts. Unlike other clubs, we meet throughout the year, though in August our events are away from the clubroom and may comprise a pub or restaurant meal, a country ramble, a guided tour or a museum visit. We also have a flourishing Digital Group that meets 8 – 10pm most months – see our website programme for exact dates. For photographers embarking on Digital Imaging this is an exciting and stimulating session promoting the use of computer techniques to manipulate and enhance photographic images. Experienced members regularly demonstrate new techniques or share problems encountered when trying to enhance those ‘difficult’ images. We also have a small library of photo books – largely on digital tips and techniques – which we loan out for free. We loan out colour management equipment, too, so you can calibrate both your monitor and printer. Do come and try us out. As a visitor you will be made most welcome without being pressured to join until you hopefully decide an evening spent with us is better than slumping in front of the telly. A visit to a regular Monday meeting or the Digital evening will cost you just £2. |
