• Photos of Twyford, Derbyshire, England
Twyford can be found by going East from Willington on the A5132 road.
Twyford has got to be one of the smallest villages that I have visited so far, It took me a while to actually find a way into Twyford. There is only one road into the village along side which runs Twyford brook and the other side is a nature reserve.

Until 1963 the village street led to a chain ferry over the River Trent, but it is now just a cul-de-sac. The ferry took you to the other side where you could get to Milton via Meadow Lane.
The village itself, with a population of little over 100, is merely a cluster of houses by the river bank. Monuments inside the churchyard reflect local families - the Harpurs (of Calke) and Vernons (of Sudbury). The small organ, with a mid C19 case reflecting the Norman chancel arch, is said to contain some pipes of a 1790 instrument.
