• Photos of Stenson, Derbyshire, England
Stenson is located southwest of Derby. From the A511 at the Cavendish look for Stenson Road. This will take you through Sunnyhill, Stenson fields, and then after going over the new A50 bridge on to Stenson.
The name Stenson old English for 'Steina's farm'

In the Domesday book, Twyford and Stenson are listed together. In 1796 the Trent and Mersey canal was built through the parish of Twyford on an alignment approximating to the division between Stenson and Twyford. The lock cottage was built in 1810. The largest building here is Stenson House, built by Samuel Brown of Derby for Harpur-Crewe tenant Richard Forman.

The pub was named the 'Stenson bubble' as the water, when re-entering the canal below the lock tends to bubble from the outlet under the towpath.
