If you are in the area visiting Chatsworth then it is well worth traveling north to Baslow and then up the A623 to Curbar, here you will find some of the most breathtaking views of the Derwent valley to be seen in Derbyshire. Curbar is located in a part of Derbyshire known as
the Dark Peak.

Overlooking the main part of the village there is a ridge of hills which
stretch for two miles. The plague (black death) was prevalent in Eyam (East of Curbar on the A623) in 1665, Curbar suffered in a similar way 33 years before the better known village in 1632. The graves of the Cundy family who lived at Grislowfield Farm can be seen on the moors, Several tombs with the date 1632 are also to be found just below the Wesleyan reform chapel (built 1861).

All Saints Church (located at the bottom of Curbar Hill) is officially nominated the Parish Church of Calver, Curbar & Froggatt and was consecrated in 1868. Curbar Primary School (located next to All Saints Church) opened in 1871.
