Ashford-in-the-water is one of Derbyshire's most delightful villages. The famous 17th century Sheepwash bridge crosses the river Wye here. In the 14th century Trinity parish church can be seen some poignant reminders of an ancient English custom - The 'maidens garlands' like those which went to the grave with Hamlet's unfortunate Ophelia, and which can be seen at Ilam and Matlock. The Duke and Duchess of Devonshire used to live here before moving to Chatsworth.
Ashford in the Water is about 30 Miles North from Derby on the A6 road.
